Mens 3rd Team vs Telford & Wrekin 4

Cannock Fly High with Victory Over Telford & Wrekin

On a weekend where Cannock’s squad list had more ups and downs than a delayed Heathrow departure board, and umpires were harder to find than an upgrade to first class, the team arrived at the gates ready for takeoff. Their recent form had been cruising at altitude, and despite some turbulence in the squad, they were determined to keep their winning streak on course.

Telford, aware of Cannock’s sky-high performances, braced themselves for a tough journey. From the moment the whistle blew, Cannock were on the front foot, jetting forward with attacking intent. Debutant ‘Johns’ was stationed at the nose of the aircraft, working tirelessly to maintain attacking width. It wasn’t long before the first major announcement came over the tannoy—Cannock had converted a short corner, with ‘Dippa’ calmly slotting home to put them on the departure board.

Telford, however, weren’t prepared for a crash landing just yet. They battled hard to generate a few chances of their own, only to be grounded by young shot-stopper ‘Dink,’ who, after a few weeks flying above the radar, returned to the squad with the precision of an experienced air traffic controller.

Before half-time, ‘Dippa’ was back on the intercom, securing a smooth second goal and ensuring Cannock taxied into the break with a comfortable lead.

The second half followed a familiar flight path—Cannock managing the game with precision, moving the ball seamlessly through the departments like a well-organized check-in process. Then came the moment for second debutant ‘Savage’ to hit full throttle. With two rapid goals of his own, he turned the scoreline into a first-class experience for Cannock, demonstrating their dominance over the airspace.

To their credit, Telford continued to hold firm, defending with heart and experience, and eventually securing a late consolation goal to make it 4-1 before the final approach.

Flight Crew Recognition

✈ Man of the Match: This week’s top flyer was none other than ‘Sam,’ who, despite the disappointment of a cancelled flight lesson that morning, soared to new heights with a composed, confident display. His tackles and strong slap passes down the line kept Cannock’s engine running smoothly.

🛑 Dick of the Day: A tricky decision with minimal turbulence in Cannock’s performance, but VC ‘JD’ took the dubious honor upon himself after a moment of mid-air confusion. Stopping a long corner with his foot - apparently unaware the game had restarted - leaving him looking as lost as a passenger at an unfamiliar terminal.

Final Boarding Call

With only two flights left on the schedule, Cannock have secured third place but will need a major power outage from Market Drayton or Newport if they are to make a last-minute dash into the top two.

Regardless of the final destination this season, one thing is clear: Cannock’s future is looking bright. With young talent coming through and experienced leadership guiding the way, the club is set for a first-class journey ahead.
